DISCOVER NEWS UPDATE

A small rural hotel on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, immersed in a stunning natural setting, reached by a perfectly passable dirt road lined with fruit trees and lush bushes.

Whether you are preparing to climb the Kili or are on your way back, Materuni Homes is the perfect place for pre- and post-climbing, as it is located at a high altitude which allows acclimatisation before you start and is the environment you need to rest after the effort.

The ideal accommodation for families with children, couples, solo travellers and groups of climbers. It is a little hidden paradise where it is worth stopping and enjoying all the breathtaking African beauty.  The ideal place for those who love being in contact with the wildest nature and being part of the local family of Elisante and Consolata, committed to their environment and to the cultural and economic development of the Materu community.

Whatever the reason for your trip, Materuni is a place you can’t miss, so we recommend a stop at Materuni Homes to start your journey with a salute to the great mountain or as a farewell to your African adventure.

Upon arrival, you are met by a welcoming family ready to share their delicious food and ancestral traditions, their traditional clothing and a smile that touches your heart. You will find a perfect match between the ancient and the modern in the spacious and cosy rooms, from whose large windows you can see the full force of the jungle, inhabited by a rich local fauna.

With a day full of activities such as trekking to the waterfall after winding through coffee plantations and a spectacular sunset on the border of Kilimanjaro National Park, the Materu’s will tell you magical stories around the bonfire while Mama Agness, the wise old woman of the family, prepares a delicious dinner in her own kitchen.

A gastronomic experience that feeds your soul and your body. At night there is absolute peace and quiet in an idyllic setting under a blanket of stars in the African sky. With crickets, bush babies and monkeys as the soundtrack that accompanies the moment of rest in a dreamlike journey.

After a refreshing sleep, a delicious breakfast awaits you with the view of the coffee and banana farms that pay obeisance to “that shy woman who hides herself as you approach”, the superb Kilimanjaro Mountain. You will continue your journey filled with memories of life and with the feeling of having left a piece of your heart on the slopes of Tanzania’s most imposing mountain.

Materuni is still an authentic tribal village, home to the Chagga tribe and the last village before Kilimanjaro National Park, being a natural border with that park. The word Materuni originates from the word “Materu”, which is the dominant community in this area and makes up 80% of the total population of people living in Materuni.

This small village is known for its beautiful waterfalls, coffee farms and amazing vegetations, land of wild animals and birds such hyrax, black and white colubas monkey, blue monkey and wild pigs.

Located only about 15 km from the bustling Moshi, is a haven of tranquillity, tradition and pure nature. Overall, Materuni is a beautiful and culturally rich destination that offers visitors a chance to experience the natural beauty and traditions of Tanzania.
